Symantec Ghost
:
Many people have experienced reinstalling the operating system after the computer crashes. When the computer has just installed the operating system and applications, before it builds the database, using the Ghost software to ghost the hard drive into a image file and burn it to a CD, one can save much trouble of reinstalling Windows and setting it up again. Only thing needed here is to use the image file to restore the content of the hard drive when the computer needs to reinstall. Here is how it works.Symantec Ghost Backup。
◎ Remote data backup:Use the Internet or LAN to backup data in another place (e.g. from Taipei 's office to the branch office in Kaohsiung ). The advantage is it can prevent natural disasters (e.g. flood, fire, or earthquake) from damaging computer in the same area at the same time. Currently, there are many “Internet Free Space” available for use such as Xuite, PChome, or Yahoo…etc. Using the Internet backup has to consider the bandwidth and security. No matter which backup provider you choose, it is better to compress the files to smaller size before you upload; it will save time and space.
◎ NoteBook Backup:
1. Store the data to another computer by using LAN
2. Remote data backup: via the Internet
3. USB Flash Drive: convenience
LAN/Internet Backup:
If the company uses LAN with Win2000, Novell or Linux, use each username to set up all folders at the server. And also set up the volume and the permission level for each of them. At the User end, create a “Shared Folder” into a logic disk for users to store their important data and it can be gathered and backup easily by the Administrators.
No matter how expensive the backup system is; there must be a specialist, who is better assigned inside of the company, to maintain the system because the automatic system is not reliable. The person who assigned to maintain has to be hardworking and circumspect to check the condition of backup everyday. |
